You can request a potential tax identification number for foreigners electronically.
If you have previously received a potential tax identification number based on the passport number you have entered, you can access your relevant petition from the Potential Tax Number Inquiry for Foreigners field under the Inquiries / Verifications menu by logging into the system.
With the Digital Tax Office application, tax identification numbers are generated only for the foreigners entering Turkey.
IMPORTANT!
In the absence of a valid Foreigner Identity Number, a tax number is a number issued to foreigners to enable them to carry out some official transactions and to register these transactions. With the tax number, foreigners can open accounts at some banks, purchase health insurance, pay for residence permit card fees or tuition fees.
Receiving a Tax Number is a very simple process. The only document required is a valid passport.
The Tax Number can be obtained in two ways:
- Online application: Go to the Interactive Tax Office (https://dijital.gib.gov.tr/foreigners/kimlikNoBasvuru). Click on the link Potential Tax Identification Number for Foreigners and fill in the form. Click “OK” and the system will issue you a tax ID number. Your Potential Tax Identification Number is below the line with your name on the page that opens.
- Personal application: If there is a problem with the online system, you can visit any tax office and apply for a tax number in person. The documents needed in this case are as follows:
o Original passport
o Photocopy of the passport identification page
o Tax Number request petition
Tax Offices only accept the applications of those who receive the warning “Your identity and passport information could not be verified” even though all information was entered correctly during the online application and it is recommended that you obtain the “Potential Tax Number for Foreigners” online via the internet to avoid unnecessary time loss.
